Spirit of compromise in the Messianic movement

Important News About
Ariel’s Camp Shoshanah
During the 1960s in North America, a great Jewish Messianic revival began. After tapering off in the U.S. during the 1980s, it broke out anew in the nations of the former Soviet Union. Now there is a cancer growing that threatens to derail the Messianic Movement. It is eating away at the body of Messianic Jewish believers by attacking the very essence of the Gospel message. A disheartening and destructive confusion has set in regarding what it is that one must believe to receive eternal life. It is sad to see the Messianic Movement becoming infested with classic liberalism and a form of universalism that denies the foundation of the Gospel message of salvation we are called to preach, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek (Romans 1:16).
Heresies once held only by the fringes of the Messianic Movement are now being held by various leaders within the movement. A form of Jewish universalism is spreading the teaching that Jews (at least Orthodox Jews) do not have to believe in the Gospel message to be saved; that they can be saved through faithfulness to their own Judaism. Therefore, they say no missionary work among the Jews is essential anymore and evangelism efforts should be dropped. When asked, “What is the Gospel?” some of these leaders lack the knowledge to reply. Others deny that the Gospel has Jewish relevance. Still others add so much clutter to the basic Gospel message that one is not sure exactly what is being said. Some ask if the salvation message is only national and not individual. When the clear message of the Gospel is presented according to I Corinthians 15:1-4, these same leaders declare the Gospel to be too simplistic! The Gospel and what one must believe to be saved is indeed simple, but simplistic it is not.
There is a critical need to train people, both Jews and Gentiles, in sound biblical and Jewish background material so they can enter the Messianic Movement with sound doctrine and teaching. There has never before been a greater need for sound Bible teaching than now.
I believe the current trends make clear the need for our growing discipleship training programs at Ariel’s Camp Shoshanah. We are expanding our summer camp program to address these trends in the Messianic Movement. In addition, it is my vision to start a School of Messianic Jewish Studies with a one-year program on site at Camp Shoshanah for the fall semester of 2010. It is my intention to personally oversee the instruction of the students who will attend Ariel’s School of Messianic Jewish Studies.
Yours for the salvation of Israel,
Dr. Arnold G. Fruchtenbaum
